Bachelor Lake targeting Q3 2012 for full production
Since the acquisition of the old Bachelor mine by Metanor Resources Inc., the surface infrastructures were put back in good working order: the hoist room, shaft house, compressors, administrative and technical offices, the core shack as well as bunkhouses which can welcome more than one hundred workers. The site also has a 50 hectare pond (bassin) to collect mill waste as well as a 5 hectare polishing pond (bassin). The 800 tpd ore mill was completely renovated and Metanor is now completing installation of a coal activated treatment system. This process will allow Metanor to reduce its ore recuperation cost.
The shaft sinking, which began during the course of 2010, was completed at the end of July 2011. In all, 536 feet were excavated, and the Bachelor mine shaft has now reached a depth of 2 384 feet. This work allowed access to three additional levels, levels 13, 14 and 15, which are 200 feet apart. During the second half of 2011, Metanor intends to start lateral development work on levels 13 and 14, in order to collect a 5 000 ton bulk sample and, simultaneously, start drilling work to build up confidence in the already existing resources and to define new ones.
Following the bulk sample collection, a feasibility study will be undertaken. Taking into account the positive conclusions of the prefeasibility study done in January 2010 by STANTEC and the actual price of gold, Metanor is planning to reach full production in Q3 2012. In the meantime, Metanor is contemplating the possibility of milling the numerous ore deposits surrounding its mill, as it is the only one in a 100 km radius.
The underground mining method of the gold deposit, mainly by shrinkage stopping, has produced 131 000 ounces of ore during the ’80s. Twelve levels, with ventilation and egress, have been developed. The first levels are accessible by a three-compartment shaft, and the deeper levels by a four-compartment shaft. The shaft pump is at a depth of 562 66m (1 846 feet). Underground access from the Bachelor mine into the Hewfran claims already exists on the 4th, 6th and 8th levels. During the 2004-2005 winter, the mine was dewatered in order to initiate an underground drilling program.
